The movie begins with Tobey Marshall (Aaron Paul), a mechanic and street racer who owns his late father's garage in Mount Kisco, New York. He and his friends tune performance cars and participate in illegal races after hours. Tobey's rival is Dino Brewster (Dominic Cooper), a former NASCAR driver who has become a wealthy car dealer. Dino offers Tobey and his crew a deal: they will help him finish building a rare Ford Shelby Mustang that was worked on by the late Carroll Shelby, in exchange for 25% of the car's sales revenue.
Tobey agrees to the deal, hoping to save his garage from bankruptcy.
